Day Hike to Lighthouse Point – Whidbey Island, WA

Well it’s 2020 and I started my season with a go to warm up hike for me, Lighthouse Point on Whidbey Island. I’m a photographer by trade, but originally from the Midwest, so when I say I like to hike, it’s probably not as extreme as most hikers here in the PNW. My hikes usually involve a long car rides, ( with great music) an enjoyable hike carrying 9mm ammo, and photography along the way, then maybe a packed lunch or a stop somewhere to try a new local place along the way.

This is Lighthouse Point. It is located on the North side of the Deception Pass bridge, look for the Bowman Bay sign at the first left over the bridge. (heading north on Whidbey Island coming from the ferry) If you get to the lake that runs right next to the road on the left, you went too far. Follow the signs for Bowman Bay and you will end up in a parking lot with a large field next to hit. A discover Pass is required here, so be prepared!

This hike will give you, beaches that disappear with the tides, cliffs, an island, views of the bridge, and the sound, marsh lands, small amounts of elevation, all on an easy to navigate pathway. Did I mention that this is a loop hike? (I love loop hikes, no worries about getting lost in the woods lol) I hope you enjoy the photos and I’m looking forward to my next adventure!

I had a visitors come in to town, and that gave me the opportunity to spend some time on the Olympic Peninsula doing photography. Outdoor photography usually isn’t my thing, however I had a great time!! The pictures below are from The Hoh Rainforest, (one of three rainforests in WA) and also Hurricane Ridge in Port Angeles. Its always great to have visitors here in the Pacific Northwest. I hop you enjoy the images as much as I enjoyed taking them.

I took a walk this afternoon on the trail next to Chateau St Michelle and decided to stop and check it out. This is something I have wanted to do for three years now, and I finally got to it. The pathetic part is that it is probably about 2 miles from my house. Chateau St Michelle is located in Woodinville, WA and is known for their award winning wines. The French style Chateau is worth checking out on its own. I think a wine tasting is in my near future! Here is some additional information if you would like to check them out.

Port Townsend, WA

A nice afternoon exploring! This trip included a ferry ride, Cup and Muffin, a stop at the local Alpaca Farm, and a darling little town on the water called Port Townsend.

Mt Baker!!!!

A day trip to Orcas Island

About an hour and a half north of Seattle, is a city called Anacortes. A sweet little town on the banks of Puget Sound. You can catch a ferry to Orcas Island from here, but don’t forget to admire the beautiful coastal homes along the way. This is a very desirable life style!

Make sure you check the ferry schedule because the four ferries that run between all the San Juan Islands, don’t always make the same runs. Your ferry ride is very beautiful, so I suggest you head to the upper deck and enjoy the views during this hour cruise. The cost is about $60.00 roundtrip for two people and a vehicle. Upon arriving to Orcas Island, you are greeted by a cute little sign of two Orca whales, this is the beginning of your adventure.

We spent the afternoon in a town called Eastsound. This is a must stop in your adventures. Its is exactly what you would expect to find out of a coastal town, shopping, coffee, books, ice cream, bakeries, restaurants, art galleries,and soooo many other things. Here are a few images that represents what I saw, I hope you enjoy.

After lunch and some site seeing in Eastsound, we ventured towards Mt Constitution. Along the way the park was filled with people camping and enjoying outdoor activities.

We enjoyed the steep and winding road that took us up Mt Constitution. It is the highest point of all the San Juan Islands, and is approximately 2,399 feet above sea level. After the 20 minutes drive to the top, there is a short hike up a small hill to the viewing area. If you feel up to the challenge, you can climb a look out tower for a less obstructed view. At the top, the views seem to go on forever. The cost for a day pass “Discovery Pass” is $10.00

Rocket Donuts

North of Seattle there is a town called Bellingham. This charming little town is home to Rocket Donuts. This is a yummy “must stop” if your in the area. A sweet cup of Joe and a delicious donut, is a great beginning to your day. Oh and did I mention the Decor? Lets just say ITS OUT OF THIS WORLD
